Suspension trainers have been around for a while but have only recently started getting popular in India. The only brand available internationally for a while was TRx. Today though you have a choice of multiple brands.
The beauty of suspension training is that it only uses your body weight and gravity to get you a great full body workout. There is a common misconception that suspension trainers only work for the upper body. This is simply not true. There are loads of exercises that can be done for the legs using a suspension trainer as well. Today we are going to look at the main factors that you should keep in mind before you purchase a suspension training kit.
Check number of Anchors
The first thing to check is the number of anchors that are used in the suspension kit. Most kits today come with just a single anchor. This is what gets attached to either your door or any other anchor point. Having just one anchor makes it easy to setup the kit and makes the kit more portable too.
Handles made of Rubber/Foam?
When doing suspension training, all the exercises will involve you having to hold on to the handles with your arms or feet. This means that the quality of these handles is very important. Most kits come with either foam or rubber handles. Foam is more commonly used and can provide a comfortable grip while you work out. If your hands are prone to sweating, you might need to get some rubber grips that can be put on top of the foam to ensure that your hands dont slip while working out.
Maximum Weight Capacity
The next thing to check is the maximum weight capacity of the suspension trainer. While working out, its not just your static weight acting on the strap, it will also be subjected to dynamic forces. Make sure that the straps are rated for at least 120 kg of weight to ensure your safety.
Easy to Adjust length
Different exercises will require different strap lengths. For example, when you are doing pushups, the straps will need to be lengthened. While doing an exercise like face pulls though, the straps will need to be shortened. You will be adjusting the length of the straps often so it is important to check the strap length can be adjusted easily.
Check if you need an extender
If the anchor attachment point is at a height, you might need to use an additional extender. This will ensure that you are still able to perform all the exercises in the same way. Most kits have this available in the main kit, but if not check if you can purchase one separately.
